Christmas at the Castle
With December fast approaching we’re gearing ourselves up for another busy festive season at the castle with a programme of performances spanning the centuries. This year’s festive events programme has something for everyone.
We begin our December programme in the Great Hall as a Cromwellian soldier explains why Oliver Cromwell sent his troops to capture the castle on Christmas Eve 1650. Come along and discover the ways in which he helped make the mighty Edinburgh Castle surrender.
From the man who famously despised Christmas to the man who created one of the most beloved Christmas stories of all time, come and explore Britain’s ancient festive traditions with Charles Dickens as he goes on a quest to revamp them for the Victorian age in his latest novel, ‘A Christmas Carol’.

For that extra-special experience why not treat yourself to one of our delicious Christmas lunches? They include all-day access to Edinburgh Castle and a sumptuous three-course lunch. With unrivalled views of Edinburgh’s skyline, the castle provides a stunning backdrop for a Christmas feast. But you’ll have to be quick; they’re selling fast…
